Hibiscus Coast Quilters' Silver Anniversary Quilt Show was held in Orewa's Community Centre in August 2017
BELOW: One quilt in particular caught the eye of the visiting public - who overwhelmingly voted it to be their favourite item in the whole show.
"The Upcycled Wedding Dress" created by Leonie Orwin featured amazing
handcrafted detail. Leonie’s own wedding dress had been beautifully re-purposed as a quilt - using beading, smocking and many other intricate creative embellishments.

ABOVE: Small cushions displayed in the entranceway of the quilt exhibition attracted many visitors’ attention and appreciation. Each month approximately thirty of these cushions are gifted by Hibiscus Coast Quilters to the cardiac ward at Auckland City Hospital. They are given away for surgical patients to hug - easing the pain and discomfort if they cough or sneeze.
LEFT: Celebrating 25 was the theme of
a special member challenge on display
at the show.
Fourteen small quilts on that theme
were made by members and were sized up to 30cm square.
Fran Carter won the challenge with her depiction of a group of happy quilters enjoying "25 Years of Quilting Fun".
